Content:
As journalistic translation research has come of age, researchers have drawn on a variety of approaches and concepts from disciplines such as communication studies, journalism, linguistics, discourse analysis, multimodal analysis, sociology and so on. In this talk I would like to focus on two concepts that have been used in recent years, namely gatekeeping and recontextualization, the former widely used in journalism and the latter in sociology. I would like to explore ways in which the two can be combined to analyse news texts in translation and to better understand the processes involved as well as the (intended) effects upon the target audiences.
